Who says lighting solutions need to be complex in order to be effective? And who says intelligent lighting is the rich man’s solution? Witness movie theater Cines Unidos in Sambil Mall, a premier shopping mall in Valencia, Venezuela, a bustling city located in one of the country’s main industrial sectors a short drive from Caracas.

Martin distributor Audio Concept C.A. created a simple yet elegant lighting solution for Cines Unidos, proof that intelligent lighting solutions need be neither expensive nor especially complex to fulfill the needs of a retail client. In the case of Cines Unidos, a few color changers, a bit of spandex and a good imagination was enough to effectively fill the large space and create a unique eye-catching entrance to the theater. Audio Concept together with Cines Unidos’ in-house architectural department was responsible for the lighting design.

Audio Concept placed one RoboColor Pro 400 color changer in each of 7 spandex lamps that hang in a random configuration from the ceiling of the main hall of the 10-screen cinema. The Pro 400s are placed at a distance of 1.5 meters from the spandex fixtures and are outfitted with wide angle lenses in order to completely fill the inside of the tubes with color. The hall, approximately 6 meters (20 feet) in height, has been transformed from essentially dead space to a living area that receives the majority of the focus from customers waiting to enter the theater. The system is run by a LightJockey PC-based DMX control system with a 2510 playback controller on hand as a hardware-based backup.
