Martin Stagebar 54™ Color for LifeChurch.tv’s Studio B

February 24, 2010

LifeChurch.tv is one of the pioneers of the multi-site church approach with campuses all across the country (including a campus on the Internet), several of which feature Martin lighting packages.

Studio B on LifeChurch.tv's Edmond, Oklahoma campus just outside of Oklahoma City was recently outfitted with Martin Stagebar 54™ LED battens. Studio B is a broadcast studio used for taping messages, interviews, and more for all campuses.

Handling the lighting design for Studio B was C. Andrew Dunning whose quest to provide LifeChurch.tv with lighting gear they were comfortable with yet also meet his design needs led him to the Stagebar 54.

Dunning ran side-by-side tests against several similar products. He stated, “I found the Stagebars to have the best balance of output, coverage, light quality, and color mixing capability. I really like the beam shape but also needed the ability to swap out different lenses. So far they have performed as expected.”

The Stagebar 54 is a compact LED luminaire that functions as a pixel bar for displaying imagery and video or as a wash luminaire for floodlighting surfaces and stages. In Studio B, Dunning uses their wash characteristics from four different positions: ground row for cyc lighting; in scenic alcoves to light background areas/niches; and in two lighting grid positions to light set walls and the audience.

Dunning worked closely with LifeChurch.tv staff (Technical Director Sunny Thomas; Technical Engineer Warren Hough; and Senior Video Producer Mark Dawson) in identifying specific needs, defining scope, designing the lighting and supporting infrastructure, and making adjustments to achieve a high quality on-camera picture. The infrastructure design was handled primarily by LifeChurch.tv staff.
