Martin MAC 401 Dual™ Helps Kick Off 2010 NFL Season

November 04, 2010

Lighting designer Doug “Spike” Brant of Performance Environment Design Group (PEDG, aka Artfag) used the Martin MAC 401 Dual on a special pregame show to kick off the 2010 NFL season and to honor the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints and the city of New Orleans.

The 60-minute pregame show – "NFL Opening Kickoff 2010 Presented by EA Sports" – featured performances by Grammy award-winning artists Dave Matthews Band and Taylor Swift. The show was broadcast live on September 9th on NBC and the NFL Network.

Brad Hafer of Atomic Lighting hooked up PEDG with the 401s for a test drive. “We used them to light the site and they were impressively bright. I was impressed with the zoom and the behind-the-lens color mixing system was also quite good,” stated Spike.

The event was held outdoors at Jackson Square Park in New Orleans and by all reports the hot, humid and wet weather was a challenge. “It was a bit of a combat mission,” Spike explained. “It rained a lot but the 401s held up.”

PEDG had the MAC 401s placed in clusters on the side of the stage to light trees and other site elements. As the event was held in the evening, before it got dark, the 401’s 6600 lumens of power was appreciated.

The MAC 401 Dual is an LED moving head washlight with a fast zoom, broad beam look, individual LED segment control and quality color mixing system that blends colors at the source. It also includes an innovative double-sided design that gives it dual functionality, for example as a double washlight or beam reflective mirror.

Along with the 12 Martin MAC 401 Duals there were Martin Atomic 3000 strobes on the event, as well as other lighting. Lighting gear was supplied by Atomic Lighting of Lititz, Pennsylvania.
