WEEE - Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipments

Martin Professional acts in compliance with the EC WEEE Directive in relation to the collection and recycling of end-of-life luminaires for the purpose of protecting the environment.

Directive 2002/96/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on WEEE, as amended.

WEEE COLLECTION & CONTACT POINTS
  1. WEEE cannot be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste - their collection must be done separately
  2. Return and collection systems in Europe vary. In order to find out more details please refer to the website of the Martin representative in your EU country
  3. Martin products put to market from the 13th August 2005 or later can dispose of their WEEE free of charge by contacting the ‘producer’*.
  4. Martin products put to market before 13th August 2005 can be disposed of when purchasing replacement products by contacting the ‘producer’*.

  6. All products put to the market after 13th August 2005, and falling under the new legislation are marked with a crossed out wheelie bin.

    This informs the end-user that the product at the end-of-life stage and associated waste must be collected separately. The ´Producer´ is at least responsible for the financing of environmentally sound disposal of his products at end-of-life stage´.


*Definition of Producer: The Producer is the one, independent of the sales method, who either
  • Produces and Sells Products under his brand name;
  • Imports or Exports on professional basis into an EC Member State.
 
 
WEEE PRODUCTS
WEEE covers lighting equipment as described in the directive under point 5:

5. Lighting equipment
  • Luminaires for fluorescent lamps with the exception of luminaires in households
  • Straight fluorescent lamps
  • Compact fluorescent lamps
  • High intensity discharge lamps, including pressure sodium lamps and metal halide lamps
  • Low pressure sodium lamps
  • Other lighting or equipment for the purpose of spreading or controlling light with the exception of filament bulbs
 
 
WEEE FEE
The practical handling of the WEEE varies from country to country within the European Community. In cases where a fee is charged to the professional buyer, by Martin Professional or by our representative in a given EU country, this fee will appear on the invoice and covers the organisational cost of a take-back system which could consist of:
  • Communication
  • Consolidation for Collection Points
  • Registration / volume calculation
  • Reporting to government
  • Collection and Transport
  • Recycling
FEE = Total WEEE Costs/Expected Number of lamps sold.
