Important advice regarding the installation and handling of gobos for the MAC III Profile™ & Performance™

It is particularly important to follow the guidelines in the MACIII Profile and MACIII Performance user manual regarding choice, installation and handling of gobos.

The MAC III user manual states that replacement gobos in this fixture must match the dimensions, construction and quality of the gobos supplied as standard. The MAC III uses specially-designed borosilicate 3.3 gobos with a heavy matted aluminum coating.  Gobos made with any other type of material or coating (including standard aluminum coatings) may not be suitable for use in the MAC III because they may crack or suffer heat damage, and Martin cannot accept any responsibility for problems that result from their use.

The Woodroffe gobo collection available from Martin has been tested and is approved for the MAC III.

Metal gobos (including both aluminum and steel types) are not approved for use in the MACIII Profile MACIII Performance. Besides damage to the gobo itself, using a metal gobo in the MAC III can cause damage to the fixture.

Do not use gobos with dark coatings on either side in the MACIII Profile and MACIII Performance, as they will absorb heat – either directly from the lamp or reflected back from other gobos and optical components – and will not be durable.

Pay particular attention to gobo orientation as explained in the MAC III Profile and Performance user manual. To avoid heat damage, gobos must be installed with their more reflective sides facing towards the lamp.

MACIII Profile & MACIII Performance gobo handling and storage instructions
1. Store all gobos in a dust-free environment with approx. 50% humidity.
2. Always use clean gloves when handling gobos.
3. Avoid touching the other gobos when taking out a gobo from the rack: the sharp edge of one gobo can scratch the others.
4. Clean the coated side of gobos with dust and oil-free compressed air only.
5. Clean the uncoated side of gobos with photographic quality lens-cleaner and optics cleaning tissues.
6. Avoid scratching coated and uncoated sides.
7. Never place a gobo with the coated side face-down on any surface.
8. Mount the gobo with the matted coating towards the lens.
