Maxxyz at Göteborgskalaset

”Göteborgskalaset” is the name of an annual festival held each year in Gothenburg, Sweden. Held from August 8 – 16, it has everything a good festival should - music, boat racing, beer and food from all over the world.

This year some 26 performances were spread out over the 9-day festival with Swedish artists like Peps Persson, Buddaboys, Totta Näslund and orchestra, and Pugh Rogefeldt headlining on the festival’s main stage.

For the third year in a row, Gothenburg-based sound and light company Diroco lit that stage with Diroco’s Marcus Persson responsible for the on stage lighting technique. He also created a varied lighting design for the event.

Martin Professional´s new professional lighting console, Maxxyz, was used to control the main stage rig which consisted of 6 MAC 2000 profile spots, and 6 MAC 600 and 8 MAC 300 washlights. As a member of a special discussion group in which he was able to provide input during the development stage of Maxxyz, Marcus has unique insight into the new lighting controller. A year ago he had the opportunity to try it briefly, but now, because Diroco owns their own console, he used it for the first time at Göteborgskalaset. 

Marcus commented, “The console has come a long way. It worked beyond expectations all through the festival and contained lots of well thought out and functional solutions and shortcuts. The clean design and the smart set-up in the console makes it well suited for live gigs, especially with the possibility of fast switches of programs and macros. Another advantage turned out to be the built-in Martin ShowDesigner (MSD) since most of the programming had to happen during the day in daylight. The Visualizer made it possible to master the light even on a sunny afternoon. In all it is a great console and our guess is that it will keep on growing!”
