New Mexico’s Santa Ana Star Casino

Since the early 1980s the Pueblo of Santa Ana, a Native American tribe with reservation lands just north of Albuquerque, New Mexico, have actively pursued a strategy of developing tribal enterprises, seeing economic independence as crucial to maintaining and safeguarding the tribe’s traditional concepts and values.
The Santa Ana Star Casino, a popular high-stakes gaming center in Bernallio, New Mexico, is an important part of this strategy. Having added a new Event Center in December of 2001, the facility is even more popular, attracting performers such as INXS, Ray Charles, Chaka Kahn, Gladys Knight, Los Lobos, and Diamond Rio.
MAC plus conventional rig
Lighting Designer Eric Kennedy and Consultant Billy Tubb teamed with Pace Event Services to design a lighting system that includes 14 MAC 2000E Profiles, 12 MAC 600E wash lights, 6 MAC 500E Profiles, 4 MAC 250+, and 6 QFX FiberSource Illuminators. Conventional lighting is also an important element of the lighting rig. The equipment is hung on over 240’ of trussing from Total Fabrications to form a Zia – The New Mexico state symbol.
Taking it to the next level
LD Kennedy says of the rig, “I’ve got so many layers to work with here. Each group of fixtures is strong enough to stand on it’s own and when you combine them it’s pretty easy to create an endless series of combinations. I build up over the course of the evening, starting with the conventionals, then adding layers until the headliner comes on and the MAC 2000s are there to take it to the next level, with the star drop for the big ending - it’s really a fantastic combination of tools- I have a lot of fun with this rig!”
The equipment was supplied through 4th Phase of Las Vegas with the valuable assistance of Adam Steyh and Tim Brennan from Martin Las Vegas. The installation, and the venue, has been a tremendous success with both venue patrons and performers.
