Iceland’s Smaralind Shopping Center
13 de febrero de 2002
Iceland's newest shopping center, Smaralind, located on the outskirts of Reykjavik, has been a huge success since its opening in 2001 with nearly a quarter of Reykjavik's population visiting on the first day alone.
As an important attractive element of the shopping mall, Martin’s Icelandic distributor Exton -Kastljós ehf installed 12 Martin Exterior 200 color changers in the mall’s signature 35 meter tall tower. The tower, illuminated on two sides from the inside, is visible from a great distance and serves as a type of beacon for shoppers. Color changes are controlled via a PC-based Martin ProScenium controller.
Lighting Designer Kristjan Magnusson of Exton -Kastljós commented, “We used the ProScenium controller to program slow fades between colors and to turn the lights on and off according to the ever changing seasons in Iceland. We are hoping that this will be a benchmark for us in order to gain a better foothold in the architectural lighting market.”
