MACs on tour in Japan

Even Japan is not immune to the diva phenomenon. Witness Misia, an extremely popular young Japanese singer who recently completed a successful countrywide tour, playing dates in 7 major cities across Japan.

The scale of the show (she played only arenas with a 10,000+ capacity), along with a unique stage set dressed in MAC 2000E Profile spots, made Misia’s tour a “must see” event. The stage design was based on an “Ethnic Nature” concept with 17 MAC 2000E Profiles dominating a dome and arch truss. The fixtures were supplied through Martin Professional Japan Ltd.

Meanwhile, Latin pop diva Shakira tested the Japanese waters as well. In April she sang at Sony Music’s International Asian Showcase at the Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo. Performing in support of her double platinum album Laundry Service, Shakira played beneath 36 MAC 2000 and 50 MAC 600 profile spots with lighting design by Patrick Dierson. Kyoritz Lighting, through Martin Professional Japan Ltd., supplied all equipment and crew personnel.

According to Patrick, “Shakira´s very involved in the overall look of the show and the collaboration keeps the cues extremely interesting. She´s very much into creating powerfully simple looks while I concentrate on the explosive parts of the show and the imperative cue timing. What we end up with is a show that makes her feel great on stage while leaving the audience´s jaws on the floor.

“We´ve had incredible reliability from the fixtures and the punch of the MAC 2000s has cut right through the potentially overwhelming stage wash that 50 MAC 600s can lay down.  I´m looking forward to using the 2000s on some of her upcoming appearances as well as some other projects.”
