Mach @ Strawberry Moons

Aging or ageless? That was the question for Strawberry Moons owners Mark and Rob Wlson who chose a touch of Martin lighting and a top quality Mach sound system to revitalize a decade old nightclub.

A long established venue that now sees “queues that snake up the hill and onto the high street,” the new Strawberry Moons that opened in Maidstone a few months back is actually a reopening of the nightclub that has graced the city center for some ten years.

Mark and Rob saw the need to refurbish the venue and moved the fashionable nightclub across the street to a roomier locale, investing some £2 million on a design based largely on the original club, as well as its sister venue the popular London-based Strawberry Moons.

Spread across two levels with a 1000 patron capacity, the new Maidstone location is larger than its West End counterpart and includes several specialty sections like a VIP and chill out area. It features a stylish and sophisticated décor with a large part of the £2 million spent on audio visual upgrades including Martin lighting and a Mach sound system.

Mach sound
Key to the audio environment is a powerful ‘inner circle’ of sound created in the central area of the club. Mach’s Benn Timbury explains, “To create this we used the Mach M127i, mainly due to the size and the powerful compression drivers which were ideally suited for the tops. The M152i twin 15” bandpass subs were used to provide power for the bottom end.”

Because the club DJ is constantly on the mic, it was important to provide not only a powerful enough system but also a system that provides extremely clear sound throughout the club. Compact Mach Installation Series M82i 2-way near field top boxes were used to fulfill this job. Over 16 were installed around the club to create a powerful and even sound.

ViroField
In the VIP area are incorporated Mach’s new ViroField, flat panel speakers with light reflecting capabilities. These panels are based on NXT technology and provide an ideal solution due to the low ceiling. Nearly invisible, they are mounted flush to the ceiling and give a clear and even sound around the VIP lounge.
