Peachtree Pointe, Atlanta, Georgia

7. November 2007

The Peachtree Pointe building complex in Atlanta, Georgia is an upscale, mixed-use development of residential, retail, office and entertainment – a place to live, work and play. It includes an existing office building (seven-story One Peachtree Pointe), a new office building (twelve-story Two Peachtree Pointe) and a gallery building currently under construction. The complex provides state-of-the-art amenities and was designed with efficiency and innovation in mind.

Lighting design for the exterior buildings and landscape lighting of the Peachtree Pointe complex was handled by Paul Helms, president of PHA Lighting Design. The lighting brief called for PHA to design an exterior lighting scheme that would establish Peachtree Pointe as a cornerstone for the city’s arts district and tie all three buildings together as an upscale destination center for offices, arts, and entertainment.

Exterior range
PHA turned to Martin Professional’s Exterior range of fixtures - Exterior 200 (150 W), Exterior 600 (575 W), and Exterior 1200 Wash (1200 W) – to dynamically illuminate the Two Peachtree Pointe building. The fixtures are located on the roofs of the office buildings with the Exterior 1200s pole mounted at the base of the Two Peachtree Pointe tower to illuminate the side of the building.

All the Martin Exteriors are programmable IP65 rated luminaires with CMY color mixing systems, full-range continuous dimming and uniform distribution of light and color. AmyAnn S. Ehmcke, LC at PHA Lighting Design, comments “Using the Martin fixtures allowed the lighting to be placed precisely where it was desired and gives the flexibility to create a continuous scheme around all sides of the building, even using different sized fixtures.” The Exteriors provide the owner, Dewberry Capital, the option to use color, if desired, to call attention to the buildings for special events or artistic installations.

“Even though the owner wanted a lighting scheme for all sides of the building we didn’t have ideal locations to place the fixtures on every side,” AmyAnn states. “By mixing the different sizes of the Martin fixtures we were able to overcome this obstacle from every angle.”

The Exteriors are controlled by a Martin Maxxyz PC system via a rack mount computer. It is an Artnet controlled lighting system with three separate Artnet nodes for the One and Two Peachtree Pointe buildings and a parapet wall. The Martin equipment was supplied by PRG Orlando with installation handled by Henderson Electric. System control design and integration was done by Martin’s Bruno Silva with programming by Rob Smith.
