Light of the World at Winter Olympics

Some 84 Martin MAC 2000s are being used at the Church of Latter Day Saints Conference Center in Salt Lake City in the show Light of the World: A Celebration of Life. The Martin MACs have been supplied by Upstaging with lighting design by Jonathon Featherstone.

Set to run throughout the Olympic period, Light of the World is a multi-cultural show designed to capture the “light within each of us” that inspires acts of compassion, feats of bravery, and the realization of individual triumph.

From the moment guests enter the 21,000-seat Conference Center they are immersed in a lively and colorful celebration of ethnic diversity and cultures from the four corners of the world.

The show extensively incorporates the MAC 2000s in a number of performances and scenes such as a re-enactment of the Mormon pioneers westward migration. Complementing these performances are remarkable special effects that showcase unique uses of sound, light and horizontal and vertical space. One of the most spectacular scenes includes space-like effects projected onto an 80-foot by 130-foot screen, transforming the Conference Center auditorium into a deep-space environment.

The world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir helps bring the worldwide spirit of nations and celebration of cultures to life. As a prologue to the performance, the pre-show Welcome the Nations treats guests to a festival of international music, song, and dance.
