Medellin.....Colombia's City of Light!
1 Φεβρουάριος 2000
Medellin, Colombia’s City of Light, is a picturesque city situated in the heart of a valley surrounded by mountains. On December 8th the local governor and the mayor of Medellin literally lit up the city. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were invested in this project and more than 1 million people gathered in the streets to experience this impressive sight.
Martin Pal 1200s in domes were used for illuminating the main square in Medellin in front of the Empresas Publicas building, with its newly inspirational modernly designed tower! The Pal 1200 and MAC 1200 were themselves in the spotlight as characters in a play and were displayed in the entrance to the building. The theme was "What is the color of peace?" and the play ended with the selection of the color white.
Different themes were cleverly situated around the city, such as illumination of the river in blue, classical music on a decorated stage on the river shore, and impressive sculptures done in Christmas themes or simply from the artist’s own fantasy!
The city’s main company, Empresas Publicas (E.E.P.P.), the supplier of water, electricity and telecommunication, not only sponsored but also designed and installed the equipment which made it possible to convert the whole city into a fantasy of lights. The lights were turned on every night from December 8th through Christmas and New Year’s until January 6th 2000!
