A Night for the Children gala in Helsinki a high quality TV success
December 13, 2000
The Plan sponsored A Night for the Children TV gala held at Helsinki’s Fair Center on October 27 was a benefit concert organized by the humanitarian and child-focus development organization Plan International.
The event was a cooperative effort between Pearson Television Entertainment and rental company Kolmiopalvelu Oy. Kolmiopalvelu Oy planned and constructed the light, sound and AV technology for the gala.
Pearson Television Entertainment’s goal was to produce an extremely high quality live TV show and sought a professional technical organizer for the event. Kolmiopalvelu Oy fit the bill perfectly with the technical planning of the gala starting almost a year before the actual event.
Lighting designer Antti Nuutinen of Kolmiopalvelu designed the entire lighting and construction using the Martin ShowDesigner, a 3D visualization software program. "Final checking was a piece of cake because most of the work was already done with the ShowDesigner" says Antti.
Antti incorporated Pal 1200 scanners, MAC 500 and 600 moving heads, a new MAC 2000 profile and MiniMACs into the lighting design. Jem StageHazers and TechnoHazes were used to provide the mid-air effect medium. Control came via Martin Case Pro I and II controllers. Antti stated, "I decided to use Martin products because I can trust the equipment. I especially like to use the Martin Case controller and have been pleased with the support Martin has provided." All Martin equipment was supplied through Lightinen of Finland.
Performing at the gala were several top international and Finnish artists like Helmut Lotti, Tomas Ledin, Hevia and Kaija Koo. Antti Nuutinen’s design allowed each artist to receive unique and colorful lighting looks.
