Bandit Goes MAC for Pair of Top Summer Tours
September 29, 2003
The Deftones have been described as ‘loud, grungy, metallic and minimal’ among other things. “With such big sounds from a 5 piece band, the music just tells you what’s needed for lighting," states Lighting Designer Dizzy Gosnell.
With a lighting brief from the band quoted as, ´make it a compact system, but make it look big´, Dizzy went to Bandit Lites’ stable of MACs to achieve the look.
The unusual aspect to the rig is that is contains only intelligent fixtures with no conventional lighting. A four truss, hanging rig, along with 2 towers on either side of the stage, are adorned with 11 MAC 2000s, 9 Atomic Strobes, 5 MAC 500s and 28 MAC 600s. Lighting Director is Joe Paradise and Lighting Technician is Tyler Green.
Neil Young
Loud, grungy, metallic and minimal could very well describe some of Neil Young’s music as well. But few artists have had as prolific a career as Neil Young. After four decades he continues to be influential, garnering critical respect throughout the music world.
Bandit Lites has supplied a MAC 2000 rig for his latest tour. The minimalist design is the creation of Lighting Designer Keith Wissmar who has a knack for creating lighting looks that underscore the meaning behind the songs, as well as the music itself.
To bring the stage to life he uses deeply saturated color from 8 MAC 2000 Profiles and other conventional gear. Keith says that the minimalist design is all about using color and creating a mood.
