Belgium’s ZVK Open Air Party 2008

August 13, 2008

When school’s out for the summer there is no better way to celebrate one’s new found freedom than an end-of-the-school-year bash complete with live DJs, a barrage of club lighting effects and 4,500 of your closest classmates.

That was the case for the 7th edition of the ZVK Openluchtfuif (open air party) in Antwerp, where Stage Technology again used a wide range of Martin gear to celebrate the end of exams and the arrival of summer. The party, held on June 27th, took place in the beautiful gardens behind Brasschaat Castle.

Lighting design was again by Kris Van Hullebusch of Stage Technology who decorated two dance areas - a large tent and a main outdoor dance area - in a shroud of effect and color. Beats were provided by DJ Laurent Wéry and DJ F.R.A.N.K.

“Only Martin gear was used on this job and we and our customer were again very pleased with the performance and reliability of the products! Kris stated. “We may have used some ‘older’ Martin gear, but if you take care of it they’ll last forever.”

Conditions though were not ideal: the party was outdoors with rain expected the day of the event, there was limited power supply from a diesel generator, and only one day was available to build the whole construction. “But we managed it and were again 100% satisfied with the Martin MAC’s,” Kris states proudly. “We had no technical issues whatsoever.”

For the outdoor show, a 10m x 10m x 4.5m high Prolyte truss held 8 MAC 250+, 8 MAC 300s, 3 Atomic strobes and 4 CX-4 color and effects projectors. A custom roof, built for rain protection, also served as a projection screen for colored and textured patterns.

The DJ booth was lit by a RoboColor III, 4 RoboColor Pro 400s and 2 Roboscan Pro 518s. Additional lighting for the dance floor came from the DJ booth and included 4 MAC 250 Kryptons and 2 MAC 2000 Washes. Atmospheric smoke was provided by a pair of Martin Magnum 2000 smoke machines.

In the tent, a six-legged 14m x 4m x 3.5m high Prolyte construction housed 6 MAC 300s, 4 MAC 250+ and 14 meters of LED tubing, along with static four-bars and blinders. The MAC 250+’s were outfitted with custom gobos of the client’s logo. Smoke and mid-air projection canopy was provided by a Jem ZR33 Hi-Mass fogger.

All lights were controlled by two PC-based Martin LightJockey controllers with custom Offline Visualizer layout. During the event live video feed of the crowd and DJ’s was projected in HD.
