Belgium Superclub Kokorico

March 26, 2004

For a relatively small country, Belgium sure boasts a large number of leading clubs. Well-designed and packed full of high-tech lighting, sound and video gear, they are some of the biggest, most popular clubs in Europe. Zillion and Versuz come to mind and now you can add Kokorico to the list.

Actually, the club has been around for seven years but a lighting upgrade last year has spawned the latest incarnation, Kokorico Part 2. Located in Zomergem, Belgium Kokorico is one of the most technologically advanced clubs you’ll find anywhere, a trendy 2000-capacity nightspot that continues the growing Belgium club tradition of incorporating elements from the world of performance theatre.

Kokorico features what they claim to be the largest turning light spider in the world, ample amounts of intelligent lighting, and all the bells and whistles that make each week a new experience - floating swimming pools, dance stages emerging from the roof, circus artists and flying dancers to name a few.

Kokorico is made up of three main areas - Red Hall, Purple Room, and Orange Club - all teeming with Martin gear. The Red Hall is the main dance area and features a large show stage, XXL video screens, and three bars and, for the last year, the infamous spider truss made by company Techno Construct. The spider not only turns but the eight separate panels can pan and tilt. On the spider are mounted 92 RoboScan 812 and 8 RoboScan Pro 918 scanners, 8 MAC 500 profile spots, 8 MAC 600 washlights and 8 MAC 250 profiles. In the stage area are an extra 39 RoboScan 812 scanners along with RoboColor color changers.

The Purple Room is a smaller dance area with a stage, bar and DJ booth. Here are 30 RoboScan 812 scanners, 6 RoboColor IIs, an Atomic 3000 strobe and a pair of Jem ZR 12 foggers providing the effect canopy. The Orange Club also features a stage, bar, and DJ booth with 24 RoboScan 812s, 4 Wizard effect lights, and a Martin Magnum Pro 2000 fogger providing the dance atmosphere.

Roger Kerremans and Emerson Wellens of Techno Construct completed the lighting design for Kokorico. All Martin lighting and fog effects were supplied through local distributor EVDV.
