CNN African Journalist of the Year Awards

The CNN African Journalist of the Year Awards, now in its seventh year, was held in partnership with the South African Broadcast Corporation (SABC) at the Sandton Convention Centre Ballroom, Johannesburg, South Africa earlier this summer.
The aim of the awards is to reinforce the importance of the journalist´s role in Africa and to recognize and nurture journalistic talent across all disciplines.
Responsible for lighting the awards ceremony was Mike Jones and his team from MJ Lighting. Mike’s first preference for the event was 12 MAC 2000s along with a variety of supplementary lights on the stretch fabric set. Theo Rood – Technical Manager of MJ Lighting was behind the controls, and did a brilliant job with the lighting design.
“The MACs were used to light the set, and that they did!” commented Mike. “The executive producer of the awards said he was extremely happy after the show and asked me to convey this to Theo." The MAC 2000s were supplied by Electrosonic of South Africa.
Susan Purén from ‘Carte Blanche’ for M-Net/DSTV, South Africa, was awarded the top prize at this year’s Awards ceremony. Purén was chosen among entrants from 26 nations across the African continent for her story, ‘China, War Child’.
