G-LEC Turns to Maxedia
February 27, 2006
Headquartered in Rastatt, Germany, G-LEC is an international company and market leader in large, transparent LED graphic displays. Development departments in Japan and Germany as well as associates in Asia, America and Europe provide for worldwide availability and support. G-LEC supports innovative, creative lighting designers with new lighting and display concepts – transparent LED images. G-LEC LED frames are valued not only in the entertainment segment but also at exhibitions and in the architectural sector.
Increasingly, G-LEC is turning to Martin’s Maxedia Digital Media Composer to run its graphic displays. Lars Wolf, CEO of G-LEC, comments, “The basic decision to invest in media servers results from our resolution to refrain from our own development in this field - it simply would be unreasonable to ‘invent the wheel anew’ - as well as from the unsatisfying optical results that an improper combination of media servers leads to, which we as the system provider have been held responsible for, unjustifiably, much too often. With the Maxedia, which is fully integrated into the G-LEC system, we are now able to provide a one-stop ‘full service’ solution – from image creation processing to representation – and therefore can ensure the high quality standards demanded from the customer.”
Lars continues, “The decision to use the Martin media server is rooted in the fact that it can be integrated best into the G-LEC system. Their performance in direct comparison to other systems (the G-LEC experts have experimented with diverse devices for a while) is the highest. So, Martin emerged as the most solid and most innovative partner.”
Drinktec
At productions like for example the Krones/Drinktec exhibition in Munich, the Maxedia system was used to run 288 G-LEC PhantomFrames, a transparent display surface that allowef show visitors to see through to the show floor. At nearly 300 square meters it was one of the biggest systems ever to run graphics and video at any exhibition and together with Maxedia reportedly worked to the utter satisfaction of the customer.
G-LEC has incorporated Maxedia effects into a number of other events as well including the “Mad TV Music Awards” in Athens and the “Bambi Awards” at the International Congress Center in Munich, as well as for automobile manufacturer Porsche in Spain.
The Maxedia media server is capable of managing an abundance of digital data like images, video, animated 3D graphics and much more and outputs the data as a video signal to video/plasma screens or video projectors of any kind. The comprehensive media library enables easy access to creative special effects. The Maxedia handles 3D effects and mapping (bitmap or video), manipulation of layers as well as a variety of playback, and blend effects, all in real time. The Maxedia is DMX controlled allowing for seamless integration of video effects into the lighting design.
