Góngora Gran Café, Córdoba, Spain

June 01, 2007

As you walk along the central zone of the Bulevar del Gran Capitán in Córdoba, Spain, just in front of the Gran Teatro you will find a very special place to relax any time of day or night.

Góngora Gran Café opened its doors in December 2006 boasting a rich artistry, versatility and setting like no other. Situated in the historical heart of Córdoba, on the very street that lends its name to the bar and honors the distinguished poet and playwright of the Spanish Golden Age, Luis de Góngora, who gave rise to ‘gongorism,’ a florid, ornate style, the Góngora Gran Café overflows with energy, light and good taste.

Bistro, bands, bar
The Café’s new owners have overseen a meticulous conversion of the premises from bingo hall to café-bar during the day, live music venue in the evening and discotheque at night, and have adapted to suit the needs of a diverse and increasingly demanding public. That public find themselves face to face with a carefully designed decor set in the Spanish Golden Age, the work of AZ Projects and its director and interior design architect Juan Antonio López Morales; as well as a dynamic Martin lighting system that adds its own element of gongoristic flair.

Spectacular elegance
Lighting was the responsibility of company In-Out Soluciones Audiovisuales. The long-term friendship between the manager of the bar, Abelardo Cárdenas, and the director of In-Out, Antonio Solvas, as well as the motivation to create something spectacular yet elegant, led to the installation of a complete Martin package: 8 MAC 250 Entours, 6 MAC 250 Kryptons, 4 MAC 250 Washes, 2 MX-10 Extreme scanners, 10 Mania SCX 600 effect lights, 30 Cyclo 03 DMX fluorescent linear luminaires with a pair of Jem ZR-12 foggers located in the air-conditioning units. Lighting control is from a Martin LightJockey with a Martin Fingers hardware interface for hands on access. Lighting design is by Antonio Solvas with the Martin lighting supplied via ECLER, Martin’s representative in Spain. It should also be mentioned that the project was completed in its entirety in just two and a half months.

In the space of just a few short months the Góngora Gran Café has become the meeting place of choice for a select and faithful clientele. Just when one might think that everything has been done in the way of nightlife, it is satisfying to see that such innovative and versatile concepts such as the Góngora Gran Café have developed.
