In The Zone at Denmark’s Skanderborg Festival

September 27, 2000

Summertime in Denmark is festival time and none is prettier than the Skanderborg Festival held in mid-August just south of Denmark’s second largest city Aarhus.

Located in a scenic forest setting on the shores of the country’s largest lake, the Skanderborg Festival draws some of the top names in music. This year’s headliners included Beck, Oasis and Rickie Lee Jones while other international groups and top Danish bands played on a host of stages spread throughout the attractive grounds.

One of the festival’s more popular stages is called Zonen (The Zone) where festivalgoers can experience a full program of some of the latest House, Hip-Hop, Techno, DrumBass and Scratch music.

Over the past five years Zonen (previously known as the Techno Tent) has hosted some of the world’s top names in electronic dance music having grown to become one of the most important electronic music events in Scandinavia.

This year’s line-up included Canadian legend Rickie Hawtin along with other top names such as Germany’s Thomas Schumacher and Denmark’s own Puddu Varano.

A host of Martin moving heads and scanners were used to add to the energetic atmosphere - 6 MAC 600 and 2 MAC 300 wash lights, 16 MAC 250 profile spots, 12 RoboScan Pro 918 scanners along with some conventional lighting.

Organized by Martin’s own Christian Krause with lighting supplied by local distributor Martin Danmark, Zonen was one of the more popular stages, drawing large crowds throughout the 4-day festival.
