Liquid Lighting, conjuring a luminous underwater clubscape with MiniMAC washlighting

August 17, 2001

Since Luminar Leisure first launched their Liquid nightclub concept to a wave of rave reviews, the total number of Liquid clubs has grown to 8, the latest in Luton and Peterborough England. The clubs’ success is credited to a thorough thought process, and unique underwater theming. Cleverly conceived as an antidote to the industrial environment of the club scene, Liquid’s playful use of Martin effect lighting creates a soft underwater feel with swirling patterns and flowing architectural lines.

Liquid’s luminous waterworld is achieved with a full range of Martin effects, including color washes, pattern projection and Jem hazers. The lighting is composed primarily of soft-edged Martin MiniMAC washlighting, with white housing so as not to intrude on the pristine white interiors. The sub-aquatic projections are created with gobo effects from several MAC 250s and MiniMAC Profiles.

Liquid Club in Ipswich, the second in the series, chose a Mach speaker system, as well as a Martin lighting rig. Its huge 22 x 14 meter dancefloor, and 8-meter high ceiling, gives ample room for speaker placement. Four SlingShot MS 1262 mid/high boxes team up with four SlingShot 118i subs in each corner of the dancefloor.

Three Installation Series M182i subwoofers are centered at the end of the dancefloor and sixteen M68I In-fills are spread throughout the club as peripheral speakers.

Martin lighting and Mach speakers were supplied by Lynx Lighting.
