MAC 600 gives bite to Dance of the Vampires

January 19, 2001

Roman Polanski’s vampire musical parody Dance of the Vampires is currently experiencing a successful run at the SI Centrum musical hall in Stuttgart, Germany.

Based on the Polinaski produced 1967 movie of the same name, which achieved great success, the current production is an elaborate and often comical piece, bathed in color wash from some 28 MAC 600 wash lights.

Recently renovated, SI Centrum Stuttgart is a fantastic 1,817 seat hall and the perfect venue for a musical. Lighting plays a special role as a mood-generating medium in the venue, and in “vampire” type shows in general. Therefore the lighting concept was very important to the organizer. Mr. Kresiment, the Stella Theater consultant, settled on Martin lighting and Lighting Designer Hugh Vanstone did an excellent job creating dramatic effects.

The world premiere of the musical stage version of Dance of the Vampires took place in 1977 in Wien, Austria with music from Jim Steinmann, well known for his work with Meat Loaf, Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion, Barry Manilow and others.
