Mach SlingShot System for The Grove of Anaheim

When a newly installed sound system is ready for its first test your first choice of bands probably wouldn’t be ear-splitting heavy metal act Slayer. On the other hand, if you really want to know what your gear is made of, what better way to find out.

That was the case recently for a newly installed Mach SlingShot system at one of southern California’s premiere live venues, The Grove of Anaheim, a 2000+ capacity multi-use venue that sees some 100 acts a year including some of the industry’s top bands such as INXS, Simple Minds, The Doobie Brothers and more.

All ears tuned to SlingShot

Slayer played two sold out shows on May 1 and 2 and easy sounding they are not. As Slayer proclaimed that God Hates Us All in support of their latest CD, all ears were tuned to the Mach SlingShot system.

The system is comprised of 8 Mach MS1262 SlingShot top-boxes and 4 MS15X2 SlingShot fly-bass units with additional power coming from 12 Ballister subwoofers. Six Mach M12T full range speakers are used for front-fill. Four compact Mach M1201T and 4 full range M1502T’s are used as stage monitors.

Control of the system comes from 3 Mach M20.06 loudspeaker management processors. Anaheim based Integrated Media Systems installed the complete system.

Passes the Slayer test

Chris Wrightsman, Production Operations Manager at The Grove, had this to say about the SlingShot’s debut at The Grove, “The debut show on the new Mach system totally blew everyone away.  Slayer, we all knew, (with a hint of anxiety) would be an extreme test of Mach´s capabilities.  It performed amazingly well, with everyone complimenting the system’s coverage, overall tonality, and ultimately for Slayer, bone-crushing volume (In fact, it was so loud the system had to be turned down). We metered 122db C weighted at the mix position. Tim, FOH with Slayer, summed it up best at the end of their 2nd night by saying "YOU WON´T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS RIG!"

Benefits of a compact system

High quality output isn’t the only benefit of the Mach system. Previously blocked by the earlier sound system’s large size, two large video screens remain fully visible due to the SlingShot’s smaller size. Now The Grove can use their video screens to their full potential. A compact system also meant that installation was a breeze compared to the previous heavy system.

Besides use as a concert venue The Grove offers event catering, conferences, themed events and a main room that accommodates awards ceremonies, sales meetings or product launches.
