Martin Danmark warms up for Eurovision Song Contest with Danish Melody Grand Prix

March 14, 2001

Martin Professional’s local Danish distributor Martin Danmark warmed up for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest by supplying a huge Martin rig to the Danish Melody Grand Prix whose winner moves on to the main event in May.

Martin Danmark, who will be delivering over 400 MAC moving heads along with tracking systems, smoke machines and other equipment to the Eurovision Song Contest later this spring, played a significant role in lifting the Danish Grand Prix to new heights.

Broadcast by TV network Danmarks Radio (DR) from the Herning Messe Center in Herning, Denmark the show featured an abundance of Martin gear and an impressive 42 armed truss that hung above the audience and looked spectacular on television.

Martin Danmark’s Jens Ole headed a hard working crew who supplied 22 of Martin’s new MAC 2000 profile spots along with 56 MAC 500s, 74 MAC 600s, 24 MAC 300s, 16 Pal automated framing spots, 24 RoboColor Pro 400s and a TrackPod, Martin’s single-operator multiple-followspot controller. At times the MAC 2000s, which were positioned above stage, appeared so powerful that the performers seemed to be swimming in beams.

Lighting designer for the show was Lars Nissen of Seelite whose design didn’t end at the stage but continued over the 5,000+ spectators and onto several projection cycs spread both above the stage and audience. Two large video screens on either side of the stage and a star curtain used as a backdrop added to the visually attractive design.

Outside the venue, 12 Martin Exterior 600s provided color wash on the building’s façade, an attractive eye-catcher that could be seen from around the city.

Remember, Denmark is home to the reigning Eurovision Song Contest champions and will host the 2001 version in Copenhagen’s largest outdoor stadium, Parken, on May 12, 2001.
