Martin lights Talent Showcase 2008

The Talent Showcase 2008 was held at Priory theatre in Tynemouth, Newcastle.

Martin lights used for the show were Martin MAC 600 Washes, Martin MAC 500 Profiles, Martin MAC 700 Profiles all supplied by Nite Lights.

This was a semi-amateur production with a limited budget. Johnathan Rainsforth, Lighting Designer for the show wanted it to look and feel like a professional production and therefore decided to use Martin lighting.

Johnathan comments, “As a lighting designer, I use Martin Moving Lights a lot and this was no exception. When asked for my equipment spec, the first thing I asked for was Martin. The theatre I was designing for was by no means a West End theatre, but the quality of production was second to none, and the use of Martin’s equipment helped me all the way.”

Johnathan explained why he chose the particular lights, “The theatre had limited power supply and so I decided to use Discharge units instead of Tungsten Light Sources (Even though they were some in the rig) and Martin was my first choice, especially for the MAC 600. The colour quality from the MAC 600 units are second to none, and that is why they were my first choice. Along with the MAC 600´s I also opted for two MAC 700s and two MAC 500 Profiles. I have used the MAC 700s quite a bit and fell in love with them since the very first time I got my hands on them. The light quality and optics were brilliant and would happily use them again and again. As a programmer, I felt that the units were brilliant to program, and never had a problem with them and the always “did what they were told”.”

Johnathan Rainsforth started out as a performer always having an interest in Technical whether being a Designer or just a stage hand. His first production to design was brilliant and just so happened to be Austin Powers the Musical! From there he continued to work strongly with musical theatre not just as a designer but also as an electrician, which gave him the chance to work with Brilliant Designer and associates from productions including Sinatra the Musical, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and his favourite Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. http://www.johnathanrainsforth.co.uk
