May 03, 2006
Starlight Express’s latest tour opening in Torquay in February 2006 is utilising the unique performance, quiet operation and versatility of the Martin MAC 700, 24 of which have been supplied by Stage Electrics.
Fully equipped with all the industry standard Martin features; a compact, light, fixture with power and optical precision; the MAC 700 also combines a full CMY colour mixing system supplemented with an 8 position colour wheel and a gobo animation system for dramatic projection effects. The MAC 700 contains head and base temperature sensors to ensure that fan speeds are kept to a minimum; bringing noise levels right down to suit theatre and TV studio applications.
Stage Electrics are supplying all the lighting for the tour, Martin fixtures include the 24 MAC 700’s, 33 MAC 600’s, 6 MAC 250 Wash and 12 Atomic Strobes, all lighting is by Howard Eaton.
Starlight Express opened in London on March 27, 1984 and closed on January 12, 2002 after an almost 18 year run in the West End and at the time was second only to CATS as the longest running musical in British Theatre history.
In November 2004, Starlight Express embarked on its first UK tour running through to September 2005. This current tour opened in February 2006 and is scheduled to visit 29 venues in the UK and also travelling to Dublin through to the end of 2007.
Chris Patton Business Development Manager for Stage Electrics said “Starlight Express is a great show and we are delighted to be supplying equipment and services to the current tour. Everyone involved with the production is very impressed with the MAC 700, both with it’s range of features and it’s extremely bright output. From a suppliers point of view the reliability of the fixture has meant extremely ‘trouble free motoring’ without a single unit being swapped out so far.”
