Martin Wireless Control for 32nd America’s Cup Event
February 22, 2005
Coinciding with the start of acts II and III of the Louis Vuitton Cup, among the official events leading up to the 32nd America’s Cup in 2007, was a spectacular lighting display in the port of Valencia, Spain.
Valencian audiovisual group Neomedia-Pasarela Iluminación, S.L. was given the task of enhancing various areas of the port of Valencia and designed a spectacular lighting scheme visible from around the capital and surrounding towns.
The remarkable effect was achieved by means of huge 7000-watt tracer type xenon light projectors and color-changing system. The installation was particularly effective on the drawbridge, where a Martin Wireless DMX-512 Pro Diversity system was utilized to ease programming and lighting control. The Wireless DMX-512 Pro Diversity is an easy way to connect remote fixtures to a DMX system within line of sight. It offers a trouble-free way of connecting and setting up a lighting system, especially a system with hard to get at fixtures, as no cables and expensive downtime is required.
Over 60 automated lights were used to highlight various other areas including MAC 2000 Performance luminaires on the America’s Cup showcase and prestigious Cup itself; a large, internally lit pyramid used to receive the participants accompanied by two silk-screen-printed corporate sails of the America’s Cup; and the façade of the emblematic clock building of the port. All Martin gear was supplied through Martin’s Spanish distributor, Ecler.
The Neomedia-Pasarela Iluminación set-up constituted an unprecedented display for the city of the type already enjoyed in other great cities of the world. In this way, one of the aims of Valencia’s Mayor, Rita Barberá, and Consortium 2007 was achieved - an insistence on Valencian companies being commissioned to carrying out all the events relating to the prestigious America’s Cup.
