Meteorit art project in Essen, Germany one of a kind

February 22, 1999

This unique art exhibit is one of the most versatile examples of the use of high-tech lighting anywhere. Martin Professional helped Heller’s idea become reality. Heller showed the versatile ways in which intelligent lights can be used.

Heller’s creation is spread across five floors and is hard to categorize. It has been described as both a museum, theatre and installation, a "beautiful dream," a "wonder world," a "park of creative zones," even a therapy center all rolled into one - a place where visitors have the opportunity to play, meditate, laugh, learn and be entertained.

Heller, who belongs in a group of the most important artists worldwide today, has attempted to create magical rooms of power and timeless beauty through light and music, its lure on guests to "forget reality and enter almost meditative moments." Lighting Designer Antonius Quotd was extensively involved in the project working with Heller to help create the unique moods.

Perhaps the most interesting room is the "Lichtkokon" or Light Cocoon, the first room of its kind in the world. The room consists of 90 kilometers of optical fiber cable, tightly woven and illuminated by 36 RoboColor Pro 400s!

Visitors find the room spellbinding and somewhat hypnotic as a tidal wave of color and pattern surround each individual. The continuously changing colors causes visitors to transcend reality and pass into meditative states, even different levels of consciousness.
