NOKIA 8850

August 16, 2001

Leading cellular company Nokia has used large numbers of Martin fixtures for the promotion of its exclusive 8850 GOLD mobile phone in Hong Kong.

The GOLD Edition of Nokia’s flagship 8850 was first unveiled at Tech Summit in March 2001 in Sydney, Australia, and was officially launched in May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

Echoing the "Gold Rush Fever" theme of the launch event, HKCEC was transformed into a replica of ancient Egypt, complete with Sphinx and Great Pyramids - with the goal of drawing parallels to a golden age of Pharaonic luxury.

The extravagant theming of the occasion warranted some special effect lighting. There to provide the Midas touch was a range of automated Martin moving heads. 24 MAC 500s and 16 MAC 600s were used to steep the scene in brilliant gold light. The opulent setting also provided abundant opportunities for a powerful set of 12 MAC 2000s.

The lighting for the event was provided by lighting suppliers Artesian Engineering Company.
