Queen of Clubs
March 16, 2004
Queen Club in Paris is more than just the most popular gay club in France; it is one of the most popular clubs of any kind in the country. Located directly on the Champs de Elysées, the best location in France for any venue, Queen attracts a fashionable, international clientele.
Queen is essentially one large, 2500-capacity space with special VIP and mezzanine areas. The interior look is industrial, designed by Laurent Bouret, with concrete floors and steel chairs.
In terms of sound and light quality, Queen reigns supreme. A Martin Total Supplier package combines with electronic, disco and techno music to create an exceptional ambiance. Concentrated in terms of entertainment technology, Queen is equipped with the latest Mach, Martin, Jem, Eurotruss and Powersoft gear. Club installers were well-know French company SES Giraudon.
Some of the most important personnel in regards to the club, Gerard Giraudon himself, along with the architect and even Queen’s house DJ, paid a visit to the Martin France facility, looking for an audio system with high SPL yet comfortable in terms of pressure. Because sound would need to be concentrated onto the relatively large main dance floor with little or no spill onto the adjacent VIP area, a combination of near and mid/high system was sought. They found what they were looking for in the Mach SlingShot system – high SPL and exacting sound.
The Mach SlingShot system for Queen however was put together in a slightly different way. Choices were made in terms of processing and sub units, with the Mach M218T, a dual 18” subwoofer, and MS1262 and MS15X2 SlingShot units the audio solution for the dancefloor environment with Mach 12” M12T units used for fill in purposes. The main sound system is an active four-way system.
The main sound system is an active four-way system. Special equalization and customization was required for this special application, and because the SlingShot System is so flexible with its varied speakers (2, 6, 12, 15 and 18 inch), it allows Queen to reproduce all the frequencies they need. At times, for example, Queen uses the SlingShot system to reproduce a special nostalgic club sound, which complements some purposely placed old fashioned club lighting above the dance floor. And as each DJ has their own equalization and unique sound – electronic, disco, techno, etc. - the Mach MS15X2 is used to customize output. Additionally, Mach MS1262 are stacked in different positions in order to provide the optimal coverage for the room.
In the VIP area Mach M72i, compact 2-way near field installation speakers, provide softer SPL levels. Audio control for Queen is handled by three Mach M20.06 loudspeaker management systems.
As Queen is a Martin Total Supplier venue, Martin lighting and Jem smoke are also key components. MAC 2000 Profile, MAC 250 Krypton and MX 10 scanner units combine with Jem 24/7 hazers to create an exciting dancefloor environment. Meanwhile, outside, Exterior 200 color changers illuminate the Queen Club – Paris sign.
