Sigur Rós Tour with MAC 250 Wash
November 24, 2005
Sigur Rós hail from Iceland, a band with a unique sound described as “effects-laden and atmospheric.” They claim to reflect the beautiful landscape of their homeland with their music.
Currently out on their “Eighteen Seconds Before Sunrise” tour, which has seen them in Europe, Japan, Australia, North America and now back in Europe through November, the band is a unique live experience in many respects.
One of those unique elements involves the lighting atmosphere with lighting designed by the band's long-time Icelandic designer Freyr Vilhjálmsson with lighting consultation from Paul Normandale. A bevy of Martin MACs were used as visual accompaniment to the distinctive music, including color projection from the MAC 250 Wash.
MAC 250 Washes were chosen because “he wanted a small and compact fixture as space was a factor,” Paul commented. Reliability was also a factor, he says. He uses six of the versatile 250-watt washlights for backlight on the floor as well as for shadows on downstage reveal gauze. Other Martin gear in the rig includes MAC 2000 Profiles and MAC 600 washlights. Lighting supply is by Lite Alternative in Europe with Christie Lites covering the U.S. leg.
