Sofitel Bercy Hotel in Paris using Martin architectural lighting to accentuate modern design
March 12, 2001
In order to satisfy the Warholian taste of Sofitel Bercy manager Mr Boileau, and in keeping with the Sofitel commitment to tailor-made solutions and state-of-the-art design and technology, 10 Exterior 600s and 9 Exterior 600 Compacts were installed to add a wash of color to the outdoor architectural details of the hotel.
The Exterior luminaires are controlled by a Martin ProScenium, a visual DMX-512 lighting control package, situated directly inside Boileau,’s office. Via the Proscenium’s Direct Access Screen, he can choose whatever color combination he likes. The system is particularly useful for special events or for the arrival of special guests in which the colors of the visitor’s home country can be projected onto the hotel’s façade.
The lighting concept centers on several groups of 3 Exterior fixtures each. The Exterior’s long throw beam is projected up to 28 meters onto the various exterior facades of the hotel. Wash is also provided in dual colors that slowly change while single colored walls are programmed to change shades every 5 seconds. Special Eurotruss mountings are used to support the fixtures, which are positioned 1 and 2 meters from the wall. All lighting was supplied by the Accor Group and installed by CHRP/Serge Pinel.
The colored walls of the Sofitel Bercy can be seen by the more than 800,000 cars that pass on the Paris Center motorway everyday, the main thoroughfare to the center of the capital.
