"SPOOKTAKULAR" COLORFUL HALLOWEEN CELEBRATIONS AT ALTON TOWERS
December 29, 1999
Located in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside and famous for thrills such as Nemesis, Oblivion, and the Legend of the Towers, Alton Towers has more rides than any other theme park in the UK and boasts over 3 million visitors a year.
Illuminating Alton Towers’ historic heritage
The focal point of the evening’s events was the illumination of the historic Alton Towers building. Four Martin MAC 500s with 4 MAC Domes, and 16 Exterior 600s with standard lenses (controlled via a Martin Case I lighting desk) provided an almost endless choice of shades creating stunning scenes and an ever-changing flow of light. The architectural lighting along with a Jem Roadie smoke machine were also used to create a Halloween atmosphere in the "spooky wood".
MACs in the Magic Theatre
In addition, Martin provided a display of lighting and sound equipment for the Magic Theatre. Lighting equipment included two MAC 600s with diffuser lenses, two MAC 250s, two MAC 300s, and two Acrobats controlled by a Martin Case II controller, while the sound was provided by four stacks of Mach SlingShot speakers. Also on display was the new Martin Eureka 3D, a real time sound modeler which creates sound generated images.
However, it is not just the rides that make it famous. Alton Towers has a long and illustrious history with origins as far back as the eighth century. Once the largest private residence in the UK, the historic Alton Towers building still stands majestic among the 500 acres of landscaped gardens and attractions.
