Taj Mahal Hotel’s 100th Anniversary

May 12, 2003

Leading lighting designer Durham Marenghi has had a busy start to 2003 with a number of top profile projects including the lighting of the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai, India.

Dressed in an eye-catching coat of brilliant color for a 100th Anniversary celebration, Durham used MAC 600 washlights to project a wash of various color shades onto the hotel’s facade. The Indian National Press called the event the biggest and best show of its genre ever seen in the country.

In February, Durham designed the lighting for the National UK tour of ´Saturday Night Fever´, which featured an all Martin rig, and for two new musical productions on the maiden voyage of the cruise ship The Seven Seas Voyager. Other recent designs include a fashion show for Philip Treacy in Paris and the Manolo Blahnik Exhibition at the Design Museum in London.

As a member of the select group of ´Leading Hotels of the World´ The Taj Mahal, Mumbai, situated on the waterfront, is a gracious landmark facing the Gateway of India. When the hotel opened in 1903, it had no parallel in the country and has retained much of its original charm.
