The Cave, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

One of the biggest indoor electronic parties in the Dominican Republic featured DJ Seb Faontaine playing to a crowd of 2000 at The Cave in Santo Domingo.

The Guacara Taina grotto, or The Cave, at nearly 100 feet underground is an enormous area that was formed over a few million years by the sea eroding the coral crust of the Dominican landscape. As visitors enter the cave and wind their way down toward the dance floor, they come across several bars and cosy alcoves from where they can check out the moves on the dance floor below.

According to Lighting Designer/Programmer Luis Sturla it is down on the dance floor where “all hell breaks loose.” Located on a circular truss and light duty box truss are eight Martin MAC 250 Entour moving heads along with a pair of Atomic 3000 strobes and conventional lights. A pair of Martin Magnum Pro 2000 fog machines create even more atmosphere. All equipment for The Cave was supplied by Xpress Lighting.

“The crowd is not your follow-the-trend kind,” comments Luis. “The dance floor is a blast and energetic and the crowd gets crazy when the truss comes down with all the Entours strobing in movement, the Atomics at full intensity and the Nitro at the same time.

“The MAC 250 Entours are extremely fast, extremely bright and the shutters are very fast. You can assign the shutter/intensity to flash buttons and they respond very fast and accurate so you just have to press them following the beat. Something that I like is that they reset in a few seconds. Other fixtures take too long to reset.”

The Cave attracts a trend setting crowd looking for a unique club experience and claims to be the only grotto club in the world.
