The light and dark side of Jekyll & Hyde
January 25, 2000
In February of last year another chapter in the long history of exciting musicals was being written, at the Musical-Theater in Bremen, Germany, under the direction of Dietrich Hilsdorf. The show integrates some completely new songs and scenes which were not part of the popular Broadway-version. This German version of the classic story impresses with a fascinating synthesis of music, light and drama.
Innovative technology, extensive light and sound equipment and breathtaking special effects - all controlled by computers, not only make it possible to create a cinema-like atmosphere but also moves the audience to another world of fantasy.
Lighting supplier Werning Theatertechnik installed 18 MAC 500/600s, 4 Pro 918 scanners, 14 Pal 1200s and 6 RoboColor Pro400s for fiber optic as well as some conventional lights to realize the journey to fantasy.
The commercial success of the musical was underlined by the Award for Best Musical 1999, which was bestowed by the best known critics in Germany. The Musical-Theater in Bremen is one of the most modern theatres worldwide with a stage that covers an area of 342m² and a proscenium 19m wide which creates the frame for a fascinating spectacle.
