Versatile Versuz
November 21, 2002
Like the country itself, the dance club scene is Belgium has always been a bit unique. Remember Zillion, the mega discotheque in Antwerp with movable dancefloors and robotic spider legs? Witness the country’s latest offering, Versuz, a huge club in Hasselt, Belgium with all the technical bells and whistles.
Converted in March 2002 from the previous Dockside discotheque, Versuz may be “contrary and controversial” but it’s open to everybody who appreciates the latest in modern clubbing. Spread across four large rooms, each with its own unique character and music genre, Versuz offers a myriad of special effects and technical highlights including a full-blown Martin lightshow.
Lighting specifier Rony Raymaeckers, a long time user of Martin gear, again chose a Martin lighting rig to adorn a custom designed spider leg truss. Four spider-like trussing arms hold 8 MX-4 and 2 RoboScan Pro 918 scanners. Also incorporated into the unique trussing design are 16 MAC 500, 16 MAC 600 and 4 MAC 2000 moving heads. Some 8 Martin Atomic strobes and 4 Wizards add additional punch from the sides. Jem ZR 33s and Jem StageHazers keep all four rooms properly hazed. All lighting was supplied by EVDV of Belgium.
The complete setup is controlled by means of a 2048 channel version Case Pro 1+ controller to be replaced soon with the new Martin Maxxyz controller. Captain of the new flagship is Sasha, the well-known lightjockey from the Zillion club in Antwerp.
