Wild Island Family Adventure Park

February 13, 2004

One of Anvil Integration Corporation’s newest projects, Wild Island Family Adventure Park in Sparks, Nevada, is much more than a water park these days. Featuring a new 20-lane bowling center, Wild Island is a jungle themed family entertainment center that includes everything a family could want for a day, or night, of Jurassic adventure.

Originally a popular water park, Wild Island was looking to expand their attractions and subsequently their clientele base. With an adjacent structure ripe for purchasing, they eventually acquired the building and converted it into their newest attraction, Coconut Bowl and Smokin Marlin Grill.

Anvil, who specialize in providing the latest in audio, video and lighting for entertainment facilities, were commissioned to outfit Coconut Bowl with a dynamic lighting system. Used for championship bowling during the day, the client wanted a dynamic change to take place at night when Coconut Bowl transforms into a family fun center. Lighting Designer Andy Young of Anvil Integration was called on to create a design to satisfy both needs, from serious professional bowlers to late night high-energy programs.

Anvil installed a Martin lighting and Jem smoke system into two bowling areas – a main 16-lane alley and a private 4-lane alley called “The Garage”. Completed in September of 2003, the daytime white to nighttime color change takes place courtesy of Wizard effect lights, MAC 250 and MiniMAC moving heads, and MX-4 scanners with Jem smoke machines providing a canopy of haze on which to project.

MAC 250 profile spots and MX-4 scanners decorate the lanes and adjacent walls in gobo and pattern effects with MiniMACs positioned directly over the seating area. Wizard effect lights located near the pins add extra excitement to the pin action while a Jem Club Smoke system above both the 16-lane bowling alley and the private bowling alley keep the beams visible.

In a central commons area located between the two alleys, a soft play area 2 ½ stories high continues the Wild Island jungle theme. A rainforest effect is created using a combination of Atomic strobes and RoboColor Pro 400-powered fiber optic with liberal amounts of Jem TechnoHaze, deep sub bass and web mesh to complete the feel.

As full control of both the intelligent and architectural lighting systems was needed, a PC-based Martin LightJockey system was employed. Programmed remotely by Andy Young using the LightJockey’s Offline Visualizer, the LightJockey controls 90% of the interior lighting, including the intelligent fixtures, billiard and restaurant lighting, and other areas.

Andy reports that not only is the client very happy but they have had no problems with the lighting system.
