A JEM of a Venue

Lamba Group has recently updated the Auditorium and Aurora function room at Liverpool RSL with an intelligent lighting system, turning the club into the western suburb’s premier nightspot. The club required a flexible lighting system, one that would project modern, stunning and colorful effects when in nightclub mode yet deliver more discreet lighting when the room is used for private functions.
Every Friday night the auditorium is transformed into J.E.M Danceclub with Lamba’s Managing Director Steve Tanou at the helm. “We wanted to achieve one of the best light shows in the western suburbs,” Steve said. “And we certainly did achieve that. This is a ‘party hard’ dance club playing the top 40 hits with a friendly atmosphere, not an inner city rave club.”
Lamba Group turned to Show Technology to supply all their lighting requirements for this project. The MEC truss consists of an inner three meter circle and an outer five meter circle with five 2.5 meter long triangles fanning out from it. In the center of the truss circles is a 1 meter mirror ball.
The Martin lighting on the main truss comprises 18 Martin MAC 250s, 5 Acrobats and a pair of MAC 2000’s. Other intelligent fixtures are also incorporated.
“We needed the triangles to overlap the dance floor so the light could spread out over the whole room,” said Steve. “These days the preference with lighting is to have the whole room active, not just the dance floor. Martin provides the best equipment on the market. The MAC 250 is a good, reliable fixture which we’ve used on many projects. They have a long lamp life that is important in nightclubs and they are very bright. The Acrobats are something a bit different and the good thing is they have a similar color range to the MAC 250’s so they combine well together to create some good scenes.”
Due to its flexibility and ease of operation, Lamba Group chose to control the light show using the Martin LightJockey, which Steve believes is the industry standard.
As you leave the auditorium on the fourth floor there is an area between it and the Aurora Room called the Platinum Lounge decorated with mirror balls and Martin RoboColor IIIs to give a sparkling colorful effect. As you venture into the Aurora Room, Lamba Group used more Martin RoboColor IIIs, other intelligent lights and mirror balls to give the room a retro feel.
“Liverpool RSL management is very happy with the new look we have created,” said Steve. “We have managed to create a premier nightspot using the latest lighting technology – our patrons are ecstatic with the revamped dance club... and suffice to say, we have achieved our aim”.
