Another “Spooktakular” event for Martin UK
January 05, 2001
A wide range of Martin products was again used this year to dramatic effect in Alton Towers’ latest Halloween Spooktacular.
Alton Towers, Britain’s largest theme park, celebrated the Halloween season in style with the UK¹s largest Fireworks and Laser Spectacular, and a brand new Spooktacular ice show.
Famous for rides such as Nemesis, Oblivion and Hex, Alton Towers also has a long and illustrious history yet still retains a beautiful stately home in its landscaped gardens. To create a strange and ghostly landscape the house and wooded grounds were dramatically illuminated by 7 heavy duty Exterior 600s teamed with 2 versatile MAC 600 washlights. All the luminaires were co-ordinated through Martin’s powerful PC based LightJockey DMX controller, and supported by the new RS-485 Optosplitter.
Meanwhile, in the Big Top the new Spooktacular live show was a far cry from last year’s cute and cuddly Peter Rabbit world. The theater was totally transformed, for the Halloween period, into a creepy, Transylvanian-style home.
The story, a Rocky Horror Show for all ages, featured a devilish homeowner known as Damian De-Ville and three cackling sisters who would go to any lengths to conjure up a partner for the Halloween Ball.
A hair-raising Halloween atmosphere was intensified by a fusion of scintillating fireworks, eerie fog effects, and spectacular magic tricks where characters literally disappeared in a puff of smoke.
The striking lighting design was created with 18 Martin MAC 500 profile spots and 18 versatile MAC 600 washlights. The stage could be plunged into frightening darkness one minute, then suddenly animated with an astonishing range of colors and effects the next. A Mach audio system filled the theater with the rousing dance soundtrack that accompanied the show, while a Jem ZR33 smoke machine was used to spectacular effect to maintain the ghostly atmosphere and add mystery to the incredible magic tricks.
