Canada’s Juno Music Awards
August 27, 2002
Juno Nickelback was Canadian? Me either.
Jazz sensation Diana Krall and rock group Nickelback (smash single How You Remind Me) came out the big winners at the 2002 Juno Awards, Canada’s top music awards.
Hosted by the Barenaked Ladies and broadcast live by CTV from Mile One Stadium in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador on April 14th, the Canadian music awards were handed out beneath a large MAC rig.
Lighting Designer Jean Renaud used 28 MAC 500s, 53 MAC 600s and 48 MAC 2000s on the innovative show, which was spread across three different stages and featured performances by top acts Alanis Morissette, Shaggy and Nickelback.
Jean Renaud commented, "Compared to other Juno Awards we wanted to do something really different, something unconventional. We went everywhere with the lights, into the audience, the nominees´ bench on the floor, and the stage. It was loads of fun and we had the fixtures to cover the whole venue!" The MACs were supplied by Solotech through Martin Canada. Jean was assisted by Vincent Colbert (moving stage), Normand Chassé (moving audience) and Eric Lapointe (followspot calls).
