Hotel Mercure Gare de Lyon in Paris adds tasteful touch of architectural lighting to exterior

March 26, 2001

Hotel Mercure at the Gare de Lyon train station in central Paris has added an attractive wash of color to its exterior façade.

The two prominent features of the building, matching 25-meter high façade columns, have been washed in color from 4 Martin Exterior Compacts. The effect it has had on the building’s nighttime appearance has been great, as the design suddenly becomes more visible, gaining depth and dimension, even from blocks away.

Color choices and fade times were specified by the manager of the hotel, programmed on a Martin ProScenium controller and downloaded into a Martin 2510 playback controller. All lighting was supplied by the Accor Group and installed by CHRP/Serge Pinel.

Gare de Lyon train station is the main train station in Paris and thus very crowded. The architectural lighting installation is therefore seen by thousands of passersby each day and is an ideal complement to the hotel’s modern design.
