Hyperstate, Norway’s Biggest House Party
November 15, 2001
The mid-nineties saw the Norwegian techno and house scene emerge from smaller hideouts and less desirable locations to take over some of the best venues in the region. Today, Hyperstate, the ultimate rave party in Scandinavia, is a major production featuring some of Europe’s best DJs and a top quality light show.
Norway’s biggest house party bash of 2001 took place this past summer in Oslo’s Spektrum arena, Norways largest multipurpose arena located in downtown Oslo.
Martin dealer JORY AS, located in the town of Tønsberg 100 km south of Oslo, supplied a host of Martin lighting fixtures, Jem smoke machines and other equipment for Hyperstate 2001. It was the first time that a company outside of Oslo had been contracted to complete the Hyperstate event.
JORY used a combination of conventional lighting and automated Martin luminaries. Lighting designers for the event were Espen Bechmann and Bjørnar Tofteland who used the conventionals to illuminate a series of large truss systems in dark blue with Martin MAC 2000s positioned at the bottom of each. All the trusses hung at different heights. On stage MAC 500 profile spots and Martin Atomic strobes provided a burst of house party energy while MAC 600 wash lights were used to give color to the dance stage and decorations. Jem smoke machines were used to provide the mid-air projection canopy and additional atmosphere.
