Lighting FATJO

December 06, 2002

Seventeen-year-old Michael Brenkley, a young lighting designer from the UK, used Martin gear on what he describes as his “first proper show”, FATJO, stating proudly, “I got some really nice looks from them!”

Michael, of Set Lighting and Sound, created the lighting looks for the show at the Wilde Theatre in Bracknell, England. FATJO Live, an original show created by Musical Director Graeme Taylor, is an acronym for Film and TV Jazz Orchestra. It featured an 18-piece band playing hits from TV and Film with dancers and singers.

Michael incorporated 4 MAC 250+ moving heads and 2 CX-2 color changers into the show lighting design with control from a Martin LightJockey.  He comments, “I have done mainly lighting for my school for about 4 years now. I was extremely fortunate to light the show as I was originally going to audition as a singer but thought about asking to light it instead. I was extremely impressed with the output from the MAC 250+. They were perfect for what I wanted to achieve. I had a limited budget but what I was able to do with them was very impressive. I downloaded the demo of LightJockey [from the Martin website] so I could have a go with it and it was really easy to create professional looks fairly quickly. I only had a day to get in and the lights behaved themselves. There were absolutely no problems with them!”
