Lighting Primerica Financial Services Convention 2001

September 27, 2001

Primerica Financial Services, a subsidiary of Citicorp, the largest financial services corporation in the world, recently held its annual convention at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia from June 28-30. Several 1200-watt Martin MAC 2000 profile spots provided special-effect lighting for the production.

The size of the event mirrored the enormity of the company itself, with an audience of around 53,000. Lighting Designer Warwick Price employed more than 200 moving lights in the plot, among them 40 MAC 2000s which, according to Busch Creative Services, the show’s producer, “wound up being the stars of the show.”

Price and Master Electrician Jerry Verina of Light and Sound Design arrayed 24 of the MAC 2000s on a 28-foot circular truss and projection screen that was the central focus of the set. The remainder of the MACs were placed on the stage deck. The MAC 2000s on the screen truss were mounted yoke out and, according to Busch Creative, performed flawlessly.

Busch Creative also commented: “From a maintenance standpoint, the MAC 2000s were far and away the most trouble-free gobo light we’ve ever used. From a visual standpoint, these lights are incredible.

“Despite the fact that we had only four days to hang and prep the show, Warwick was able to create some wonderful effects with the MACs, and we know we’ve only scratched the surface of what this light can do. We intend to use as many of these as we can get our hands on in future productions.”
