Lithuania's Akropolis

October 21, 2002

The largest shopping and entertainment center in the Baltic States, Akropolis, made shockwaves when opened by investor group VP Market. Located in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius, Akropolis is a mammoth 53,000m2 shopping and entertainment center all under one roof.

Featuring Supermarket Hyper Maxima along with a host of entertainment venues such as a bowling alley, restaurant, multi-screen cinema and more, the truly unique aspect to Akropolis is a 1200m2 ice-skating rink complete with an intelligent light show.

The goal and main idea behind the ice arena was to create a disco on ice. Lighting Designer Aurelijus Pikunas used the Martin ShowDesigner to create realistic real time 3D visualizations of his design before incorporating 12 MAC 600E’s, 12 MAC 500E’s and 12 Wizards as show lighting. A pair of Jem Roadie X-Streams has been integrated to provide everything from a light haze to a high-density fog effect. The Martin LightJockey is used as the control solution.

Martin Professional’s Lithuanian distributor, installation company Music Express, completed the Akropolis ice arena lighting. VP Market plans a Latvian version of Akropolis to open in Riga in 2003.
