MAC 2000 Wash Illuminates The Concert for World Children’s Day
November 01, 2002
On Saturday, September 14th Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) hosted its annual Awards of Excellence gala at the Arie Crown Theater at McCormick Place in Chicago. This year’s event featured the Concert for World Children’s Day, and stared Celine Dion, Enrique Iglesias, Josh Groban, David Foster and Nick Carter. ABC-TV will telecast the concert on November 14th during sweeps week, with direction for television by Jim Gable.
The celebrities graced the stage beneath a Martin MAC rig at the 18th annual awards show and concert, produced by Atlanta based Executive Visions Inc.
The black-tie gala was one of the first events to incorporate lighting from Martin’s new 1200-watt MAC 2000 Wash. A real entertainment extravaganza, Lighting Designer John Featherstone of Lightswitch used 24 of the new Fresnel fixtures along with a full rig of other Martin fixtures including 48 MAC 2000 Profiles, 20 MAC 2000 Performances, 36 MAC 600s and 24 MiniMACs. Upstaging Inc. supplied all Martin lighting fixtures for the event.
John had this to say about the new MAC 2000 Wash, “It is sometimes a double-edged sword being the first designer to use a new product, but [Martin] did a great job. The fixture is, in my opinion, the consummate wash light for the professional market. It combines incredible brightness with a simplicity of design and single-minded purpose to give exactly what I think designers need in a workhorse fixture. The lack of unnecessary bells and whistles is very welcome, and the ability to utilize fixtures from the MAC 2000 family and have not only the same physical look but also the same color palette, is a great help. The fixture gave us horsepower and with TV lighting being so bright the MAC 2000 Wash really gave us an ACL type beam punch.”
This MAC 2000 Wash boasts a number of notable features including extremely high light output from an HMI 1200-watt source, full CMY color mixing and variable CTC filters. It comes with multiple front lens options for various beam spreads, a fully motorized zoom system and more. An optional motorized barn door module allows you to cut the beam wherever desired.
