MAC 2000s Help Spur 42nd Street Revival
October 16, 2001
42nd Street is a Broadway legend having won a Tony Award for Best Musical 20 years ago, which launched a Broadway run of over 8 years. Based on the 1933 movie of the same name, it is one of Broadway’s all-time biggest hits.
The current revival at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts opened on May 2, 2001 to rave reviews and garnered nine Tony Award nominations including Lighting Designer Paul Gallo for Best Lighting. It is the sixth time Paul has been nominated for a Tony award.
Paul uses 42 MAC 2000s in the production, supplied by Mainlight. Paul is one of Broadway’s most qualified LDs having created lighting designs for productions The Rocky Horror Show, Titanic, On the Town, The Sound of Music and many more both on and off Broadway.
The story of naïve Peggy Sawyer who dreams of making “32 bucks a week” in a Broadway musical, and the producer who is desperate to make the show a hit, won the 2001 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival.
