MAC 550 “Goose Bumps” for Good Charlotte
January 10, 2006
On Oct 23rd American post-grunge band Good Charlotte played the Auditorio Coca Cola in Monterrey, Mexico. The lighting brief called for a light that could ‘fill a big stage’ and “the brightness and the angle of the 550’s beam did just that,” commented lighting designer and programmer Luis “Foker” Perez.
Luis chose MAC 550s because of the fixture’s animation wheel and the effects flexibility it provides. A unique gobo selection and the aforementioned brightness and beam angle were also important factors. He placed seven 550s on an upstage truss and two at FOH, and also incorporated 11 MAC 600 washlights and 8 Atomic 3000 strobes. Lighting supply was by Audio Systems.
”When Good Charlotte broke out in ‘We Believe’ everything blacked out except for the two 550s at FOH which I used to cover the entire stage in animation effects running left to right. It gave you goose bumps!” Luis exclaimed.
”I light shows for the audience, not for the manager or the band,” he explains, “because when the audience enjoys the show, the manager and the band feel happy! The 550s help me get the job done, much more than other brands. I love MACs - I rent at least 12 each week.
“The power of the music and the enthusiasm of the audience combine perfectly with the beauty of the 550s and 600s. The 600s did their job filling the stage with the 550’s framing it. It was awesome! I had lots of fun doing that show.”
